The Alabama Silver Haired Legislature, ASHL,
is a nonpartisan, nonprofit model legislature of citizen volunteers
elected or appointed by their peers to represent the interests
of Alabama’s senior citizens. They meet in Montgomery once
each year to consider vital issues and make recommendations
to state leaders. With the maturing of the Baby Boomers, their
role is becoming increasingly important. The ASHL’s top issues
include advocacy for affordable prescription drugs, the elimination
of state sales tax on food, funding for long-term care programs
and in-home services, voter identification, payday lending
